Retire Your Horse

What does Retirement at Trails End look like?

Our goal is for all of our horses to live a quiet and tranquil life with NO expectations. Unlike in their younger years, our retirees aren't expected to work for us anymore, unless they still want to.  Many of our retirees enjoy gentle trail rides in the woods and the exercise keeps their joints supple. Each horse is observed and assessed on a daily basis to make sure their needs are being met.

We believe that horses are happiest and healthiest outside, so we strive to give them the most time outside as possible. This means they are only kept in for the most inclement weather. All horses always have access to an indoor space, however, it is their choice whether to use it or not. Horses are kept in appropriate social groups for their psychological and emotion wellbeing.

All horses receive routine hoof care and are kept barefoot unless other accommodations are needed for their comfort.

Dental care is provided at least yearly and possibly more if required. Gentle and routine dental care is critical to keeping older horses' nutritional needs met.

Routine vet exams and vaccinations are completed every year and as needed.

Angela and her family live on the property and are available 24/7 for the needs of the horses.

We take ownership and full responsibility for all horses accepted into our facility. Retiring your horse with us means you always can come visit them. We even have two fully equipped cabins on the property if you want to spend a few days relaxing on beautiful Beach Pond and enjoying time with the horses.

We are an intentionally small facility, so we can take the best care of our horses. This means there will always be a waitlist to retire your horse with us. Please fill out our application as soon as you can to have the best chance at a spot when we have an opening.
